ROCE WEDDING CEREMONY PHOTOS | SHAILA & OLIVER

Today I’d like to share something a little bit different with some of Shaila & Oliver’s Roce Wedding Ceremony Photos.

A Roce (or Ros as it’s otherwise spelt) is a traditional Mangalorean Catholic ceremony whereby the bride and groom are annointed with a mixture of coconut milk and oil (the roce), and then blessed. This often takes place on the evening before the wedding. Usually it’s followed by a hot water bath in their respective homes – supposedly the last bath as a spinster/bachelor. This signifies a change to married life.

As we were at the Mint Room in Bath I don’t think taking a bath was going to be an option! But it was a great place for everyone to get together the night before the wedding and have a curry. A lot of the guests, including Shaila and Oliver had travelled from the US. There was a lovely atmosphere, and I couldn’t wait to capture their Assembly Rooms wedding photos the following day.

Not only was a Roce a first experience for me, but photographically I had a rare opportunity to play with some directional side lighting on the guests. As the sun was setting on a clear evening, the timing and location couldn’t have been more perfect!
