James & Nuala had only requested 90 minutes of coverage to capture their midweek We the Curious wedding photos. We the Curious (formerly known as At-Bristol) is a hands on science museum and makes for a quirky wedding venue with some unique photography opportunities, and having met James & Nuala on the day I think it suited them perfectly.
Only this was going to be my shortest ever wedding assignment, how much could I achieve in an hour and a half? As it turns out, with a bit of pre-planning and some welcome February sunshine – actually quite a lot. But this wasn’t only to be my shortest wedding, but also the darkest. The thing with photos is you need light to take them, but inside the planetarium it was dark – really dark, and flash during the ceremony is a bit of a ‘no no’ in my book. To be honest I was a bit taken aback at the low light levels and blue hue the first time I walked inside the planetarium, but then I do like a challenge! This is when having the right gear can really help out.
A big thanks to James and Nuala for being such great sports – we ripped round that museum in short order and got some amazing shots to boot. A huge thank you goes out to the management at the Bristol Aquarium too for allowing us to drop in unannounced to get that final frame – it was so worth the effort and really appreciated.

For a 90 minute gig you did an excellent job! Love the ones with the silvered globe towards the end.
