…they are absolutely stunning…we’re so pleased how they came out, and that you had fun yourself!
Ross and Evelyn’s Square Club wedding ended up being a particularly smiley day for me. I enjoyed it so much! I first met them both when we hooked up for a colourful Westonbirt Arboretum pre wedding shoot, almost a year to the day. It was great to see them again – and Scruffy! Evelyn works with animals (I’ll let you guess her favourite), and they’re both really cool people to be around.
This was to be a day of firsts for me. It was my first introduction to some Polish wedding traditions. The symbolic gift of bread and salt – bread being offered so that the couple may never know hunger, while salt reminds them of life’s difficulties and the importance of learning to cope. Then there’s the couples first toast, where two glasses are presented to the couple. One is of vodka and the other water, and tradition says that whoever ends up with the glass of vodka will be the dominant partner in the relationship. Then there’s the coin toss after the ceremony, the tradition of which escaped me whilst I was trying to capture it, but I know whoever picks up the most coins, wins! :)
It was also the first time I’d seen anyone process out of a church to the theme of Jurassic Park bellowing out of the organ pipes. All at the stunning St Mary Redcliffe of all places (cue a huge grin!)
Finally, it was my first time photographing a Square Club wedding in Bristol. A lovely venue lending itself to a more intimate vibe, with a cosy basement bar which makes for a perfect place to party. As you’ll see from the photos below, they definitely made the most of it!
